SEMCOG recognizes that a thoughtfully structured alternatives analysis process that emphasizes meaningful public participation efforts will encourage the development of a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) that stakeholders and the broader community can support. The public's aspirations and concerns are critical to the shaping and evaluation of alternatives. Accordingly, SEMCOG has convened a steering committee, comprised of transportation and community representatives from all study area communities, whose mission is in part to guide the development of transit alternatives and the selection of an LPA in a manner consistent with community needs and goals.
SEMCOG also acknowledges the benefits of utilizing existing community networks for distributing project information and engaging the public in project-related dialogue. Therefore, the Steering Committee will also serve an invaluable role in assisting the project team in sharing information with and engaging local communities.
